Briefly: today Duncan saved me from cracking.
I had 7.5 hours of sleep, which I really needed. At the end of yesterday I was unable to speak comprehensively. Total exhaustion.
Today I started on DF’s foley. We finished the recordings in 70 minutes. Next I jumped onto a computer in OD48 and started editing. Things got out of control when Adam arrived to play the music for DF. I quickly set up the studio but I had to get on with the rest of the work for DF. I asked Jane to help me and be the engineer for the music recording. That went reasonably well.
Duncan came to check how I was doing. I was ok at this point. We set the task: splice in all the ambiences. Soon Josh and Matt came to meet me. I was bombarded with information and my brain started to ignore sentences. Around 2 pm I was absolutely overwhelmed by the things that I had to think of and do. I came to a point when I considered that I just leave the editing room go home and give up doing this course. “I could get a certificate of some kind” I thought to myself. Duncan came again to see me. He pushed me to get going. He very quickly pointed out what the problem was with the Clifton scene: too short fades. I was in pieces, just copying the files form Josh.
Duncan sat down with me and we went through the film. We added and mixed the ambience and adjusted the fades. I don’t really know what I was doing or how we’ve done what we’ve done. My brain still can’t process the information. I think my memory will need a few days to settle. That’ll be the time when I can remember what I did.
At the end of the day with Duncan’s guidance I bounced off a version of Dead Fish that can be listened to. But just that. Nothing fancy.
The plan at the end of the day was:
– tweak dead fish before 5pm
– back up all the project files and source recordings
– do the paperwork over the weekend
– solve the problem with the Pro Tools session (disk allocation settings)
– finish Bike on Tuesday by 4pm.
In the afternoon I had a 2 hour sleep and started prepping for the paperwork. Tomorrow I’ll get started at 08.00 am.
